Default Free flat handle touring bicycle! Get in early!11!!11!

I might have missed the joyous annoucement, because I had to invoke my
friend "Mark All Asread" a few times while I was away, but I just got
my GV Great Rides brochure.

"Enter early. Get a free bike. Pay... before 8 July 2005, and you
will recieve a free flat handle touring bicycle".

Nice colour scheme. Orange and purple.

700C alloy rims. Going up a notch!

At least it beats paying real money for the same bike when the weirdos try to
sell them on eBay for more than they're worth after the event. :-)

not sure if the y'made' them but they arraned them, apparently...
good deal for them, no doubt. 1000's of sales guaranteed.
And just think of all those LBS's getting servicing/fixing/repalcin
bits business. I was real dark on these thing last year but its hard t
argue with how many people you see out and about on em, still, and th
amount of business they have subsequently given LBS's for bigger-margi
accessories

still, that orange/purple. bleeerrrgghhhh! 'brunswick-garage-door

I dunno, I reckon "giving" people ****ters is not such a good thing,
but this is based on gut feeling more than any real analysis.

I'd think that giving someone an unreliable, uncomfortable,
slow, heavy, ugly and difficult to repair bike would put them
off cycling, rather than get them to ride more. But, that's
gut feeling, not backed up by anything!

But wouldn't that be ideal for unreliable, difficult, slow, heavy,
ugly people? I know a few :-)

Seeing people still happily using them for town use and touring 6 months
later suggests that they can't be too bad. After all a big proporetion of
the reliable, comfortable big dollar bikes bought get ridden once or twice
then left in the garage. One GVBR probably doubles the mileage for the
average family cruiser.

slow, heavy,

Cheap does not always equal significantly heavy, and even a heavy bike can
be ridden happily many thousands of kilometres. I always like to remember
Heinz Stucke who left Germany in 1962 on his 25kg three speed and is still
touring the world. Remember Lance said "It's not about the bike"

ugly

Hey, what about those of us who love green and orange?!!

and difficult to repair bike

Will concede this, but mainly becaus they were supplied without a pre-ride
service to iron out the bugs.

Reckon my gut feeling says I still see people riding them - that's got to be
good for cycling.
