Default campy 8,9,10s compatibility

I am ignorant of campy equipment. Are hubs either 8 speed compatible or 9/10
speed? None of the campy hubs are compatible with all three(8,9,10) are
they?
Thanx in advance,
andy

Dear Andy,

About halfway down the page.

You're welcome,

You need to read Sheldon's excellent article:

http://sheldonbrown.com/speeds.html

With regard to Campy, he states:

Campagnolo Cassette Systems
Campagnolo 8-speed cassettes used a slightly different spline pattern
from the current pattern used for 9-and 10-speed systems.
8-speed Campagnolo cassettes will not fit on newer "9-speed" and
"10-speed" hubs.

9- and 10-speed Campagnolo cassetts will not fit on 8-speed hubs.

It is theoretically possible to upgrade Campagnolo 8-speed hubs with
newer cassette bodies, but in practice the parts don't generally seem
to be available.

Correct.

None of the campy hubs are compatible with all
three(8,9,10) are they?

Word of warning: 8sp sprockets do fit on 9/10sp hubs but the shallow
spline tabs ruin the deep aluminium hub spline slots. (They're designed
for steel freehubs, and the pattern is different as well, despite being
physically compatible one-way). 9/10sp sprockets can be modified to fit
8sp hubs but it's a lot of work and the result isn't satisafactory either.
There isn't room for 9 sprockets anyway.

~PB, done that, not doing it again.

That is correct altho you can get a 8s system to work with a 9/10s hub
using loose 9s cogs and 8s spacers.

Thanx in advance,
andy

They are. QBP has freehub bodies, 1997 9/10s ones that slide right onto
Record and Chorus 8s hubs.
