Default Locking a bike to a trunk rack?

Is it possible to secure a bike to a temporary trunk rack such that it can't
be easily stolen? Are there ways to secure the bike lock somehow to the
trunk?

There is no opening between the bumper and the body for a cable to wrap
around the bumper.

Ideas?

Thanks.

Get a long cable and secure it around something on the underbody, like
around a shock absorber or axle. You can by 15' braided cables at Harbor
Frieght for $10. Remember the trick of using a slip knot.

You should have at least a tow hitch below your bumper. I would use
that instead of a shock absorber.

Most cars have a tow hook that's perfect for this.

I think you mean "loop through the eye" of the cable.

I forgot about this. Indeed my car has one. Thanks!

And if you use a lock with a big enough shackle (I like the Staples
resettable word combo ones), after you run the cable through the
wheels, you lock it to a seatstay.

Also, don't forget to run the cable through the seat rails. Stealing
seats/seat posts from bikes with quick-release seat posts is popular.
You could spend $100 or more replacing a seat and seat post if it's a
suspension seat post. On all of our bicycles I've looped installed those
short cables around the seat rails, than the other end goes over a rack
stay. It would take several minutes for the thief to remove the rack to
get the seat and seat post.
