It's not a 'loophole' - a hosepipe ban does not ban hosepipes, it bans
delivery of mains-supplied water through hosepipes. It's no more a
loophole to put non-mains-delivered water through a hosepipe than it
is to do anything else that a hosepipe ban doesn't ban.

Not really a loophole - the ban applies to potable water supplied by
the water company, not other sources.

Here, it makes the pots black or brown or green. Would you still
drink it knowing that, even if the water-board calls it potable?

What is banned? Clean cars or hosepipes?

The use of hosepipes domestically. You can quite happily take it to a man
who runs a car washing business and pay him to use a hosepipe on it.

Is the wrong answer.

Cwispin ****s up yet again.

"Exemptions

The following will be exempted from the restriction:

iii.using a hosepipe to clean a private motor vehicle, walls and windows
of domestic premises, or paths, patios and other outdoor surfaces where
this is done as a service to customers in the course of a business.

Mad Dave doesn't believe I can do it - but given the quality of his
decking I have no confidence in his judgement.

The log cabin is now ordered, and I expect delivery in a couple of
weeks. But today I took the first step in the cabin's construction. I
picked up 15 breize blocks to lay the cabin's bearers on, and
positioned them roughly.

Here are a couple of before and after shots.

I'll keep updating as the cabin's construction progresses.

Shed walls are up. Roof tomorrow.

The shed is virtually complete. Just a bit of trimming here and there,
tidying up and some skirting to hide those ugly concrete blocks.

friendly handyman.http://www.britishschoolofcycling.co...os/shed/08.jpg

Cool. Create a box seat all around lined with expanded polystyrene
and there's plenty of cellar space. I'm assuming this to be a
drinking den, or is it somewhere to send the kids?

Cwispin thankfully hasn't reproduced.

Don't you mean "breize" blocks?

Oh dear, oh dear. If I did work like that I wouldn't have prospered
through the worst recession in living memory or retained my Trading
Standards accreditation.

And of course I can spell 'fascia'.

Are you really a teacher?

The facia is designed to fit at an angle of 22.5 degrees to the
verticle just under the roof, however, it would be difficult to fit
guttering at that angle so I had to bodge it to accomodate the gutter
and water butts.

No, you didn't 'have' to bodge it - you just did. I assume it was you &
not an 8 year old pupil?

That has to be the biggest **** up I've ever seen. I could go into
detail, but you wouldn't understand.

I can also spell 'vertical' and 'accommodate' BTW.

Are you really a teacher.

It's interesting to note that my three water butts, associated
guttering, and water butt stands came to close to £150. Thames water
charge me £1.23 for a cubic metre of water. The three butts combined
(the third one collects water from the bike shed in the front garden)
have a capacity of 630 litres. It will therefore take about 600 water
butt loads before the butts and guttering have paid for themselves!

Teachers are well known for being gullible. You are clearly no exception.

Unless the BBC have got it all wrong, of course:

No, Cwispin has ****ed up again as usual.

I might power wash my decking over the weekend. I'll just invoice
myself for 50p and make it perfectly legal.

Do keep up!

The ban is not a blanket ban on the use of hosepipes. The example I
gave earlier was of the domestic use of a hosepipe attached to a water
butt.

So you think that I could face a £1000 fine for using a hosepipe
attached to a water butt?

It's not a 'loophole' - a hosepipe ban does not ban hosepipes, it bans
delivery of mains-supplied water through hosepipes. It's no more a
loophole to put non-mains-delivered water through a hosepipe than it
is to do anything else that a hosepipe ban doesn't ban.

OK - but can you try explaining that complex point to our resident
handyman?
