Default Transition and MTB shoes

Apologies of this is OT here but it seemed as logical a place to ask
as any.

Got a XC duathlon coing up this weekend and am really looking forward
to it, albeit it being more like a G race than even a C !

Question is ... given MTB shoes typically have laces AND velcro what's
the general approach /advice to transitions? Because of the laces I am
currently working on just putting on the shoes, lacing them up, doing
up the velcro and heading off to the mount zone... which would take an
age. Now given its a very low key race for me, if transition takes an
age it doesn't really bother me... but I was wondering if I am missing
something obvious here other than just removing the laces and doing a
"road bike shoe" transition?

cheers

It's not a given that MTB shoes have laces. I've not owned a pair with
laces for years.

If it's a short course duathlon, you could consider using toeclips and
riding in your running shoes.

Laters.

its very XC though and I fear the toe clips won;t give me enough
purchase on the pedals. But I appreciate the thought process anyway.

cheers
