ding ding ding we have a winner.

Having enough is enough. More is not always better.

Doing something both challenging and rewarding is not always 'work'.

Although you are right, you've got to be careful about that.

People can get a misleading impression of how much they really enjoy
their work from peer pressure and from working such long hours they
forget the other things they used to like doing. This makes them act
like lemmings and opt out of EU Working Time Directives and things far
too easily.

Leave on time and ride the scenic route home while it's still light I
say.

My experience is that people who leave "on time" are the ones who get fired.

Many USians 40-hour per week jobs are not enough, if enough is renting a
small, cheap apartment in a half-way safe neighborhood and paying for
necessities. Forget about trying to support another person.

And what tiny fraction of available jobs does that apply to?

'endeavor' or 'vocation' or 'profession' or even 'passion' need not be
a 'job'.

Choices, Tom, choices.

Well, most people in the US are not happy with the available choices,
which indicates a tiny problem in the shining city on a hill.

Yes we have choices... that is nice. But then, we always did. The
difference is that the choices are steadily becomming less attractive.
For most of this decade the best way to get rich was in finance...
phoney house-of-cards, ponzy BS. Most people saw their earnings go
down, while a few became wealthy. The poorer people who were actually
doing something constructive, kept buying because they were able and
willing to go deeper and deeper in debt. Now that is over. For most
people it wasn't good before, but now they are stuck with paying off
their own debt as well as the debt of those who have been playing
games with money and getting rich. It's a wonderful country!
