from the race director, both riders were both stable and handling
their bikes and themselves well. However, the race official is not an
official and should not have any input on the matter. It shouldn't
have been considered as more than a little 'argy-bargy". Perhaps the
number of injuries in the Tour so far (caused by entirely different
circumstances, of course) has made the officials a little more gun shy
than they would be otherwise.

That said, if Renshaw was going to get penalized for something, it
should have been the way he obviously and blatantly shut the door on
Farrar. But even that shouldn't have merited a removal from the race.
But what penalty would have been suitable? Cav didn't do anything
wrong so you can't relegate his points. Renshaw doesn't care about his
placing or time. Most fines are pittances. Getting DSQ from the race
was too harsh for the infraction.

It's because it was a liverpool kiss. Agree with others that an elbow
or shoulder (which I assume could actually be much more dangerous)
would probably have just got a "tut tut" from the officials

Sunny - more injuries of consequence caused by route selection and
falure to change the routes. It only took me one time riding down one
of those mossy wet forest roads to know they're not to be messed with.

Yes I had missed that during the race but in replays it's really bad,
he couldn't get away with both these issues.

Yes and while no one mentioned it (Aldag did hint at it), Julian Dean
was clearly going off his line to the left, too bad Renshaw thought it
useful to head-butt him though, as a result he's been expelled !
