JOGLE ride report
"TWO friends from Petersfield have returned home safely after the ride of a
lifetime. Former The Petersfield School pupils Danny Cameron (20), of Broom Road, and Doug Harwood (20), of Holt Down, cycled the length of Britain from John O'Groats to Lands End in less than a fortnight. The duo pedalled for 75 miles each day, wearing heavy back packs and without any support vehicle.Danny, who works at Tesco on The Causeway, said: "We just basically ate, cycled and slept. "We brought a two-man tent with us and just pitched it on the side of roads, or wherever."We asked pubs if we could stay in their pub gardens, otherwise it was farmers' fields, or on the grass verge in service stations." Doug, a student at the University of Hertfordshire, added: "Washing was basically done with baby wipes - it gets to a point where showering is a bit of a waste of time if you get up and are straight on the bike again. http://www.petersfieldpost.co.uk/new...time_1_2938655 -- Simon Mason http://www.simonmason.karoo.net/ |

This includes exceeding the speed limit past three schools. A total disregard for the well-being of vulnerable road users. The actions of a true psycholist. |

Some of us who have colleagues who are keen commuted by bike have already been enlightened as to that line of thinking. |

Strickly a LEJOG.
"AN Alnwick man and his son-in-law battled the elements and engineering as they cycled from one end of the country to the other. Fenton Moore, 46, who works as a handyman for Homes for Northumberland, and Luke Shingler completed their journey from Land's End to John O'Groats last month, raising money for Help for Heroes. It is a charity important to both men as Fenton formerly served in the Royal Navy and Luke is currently stationed at RAF Lincoln. Fenton offered a massive thank-you to everyone who supported their ride, which they completed on Saturday, July 23. "We very nearly didn't get started as one of the bikes was lost in the post," he said. "That's when the generosity of people started as Halfords agreed to lend a bike for the ride. "We then rode into a constant headwind, through three days of thunderstorms, one snapped chain and one puncture, arriving 13 days later at John O'Groats. "The support and encouragement we received during the ride was immense - people handing over money as we rode, cheering us on, tooting horns - it was fantastic and amazing." http://www.northumberlandgazette.co....ly_1_3710 995 -- Simon Mason http://www.simonmason.karoo.net/ |
