A number of acids will etch it off, and a quick pass through a
beadblaster will remove it as well. I am not aware of a convenient
way to remove it which does not change the quality of the surface
finish, however.

You would be better off just selling the chainring and then buying a silver
one. Much simpler. No mess. Better results.
