Rollers: what kind do you use...

I'm looking into buying rollers to train on in the winter months. I've heard that the rollers that have a "V" shaped center roller are the way to go, rather than the straight roller type. Have any of you tried both types? If so, is there a big difference? The idea behind the "V" shaped roller is that it supposedly helps keep you in the middle of the rollers. I'd never even heard of this before. Then again, maybe it's a new thing. I have a couple pairs of Kretilers, and they are outstanding. Best rollers you can get, there's really no question. Just they're a bit expensive. Have a standard pair with "killer headwind" for most stuff. Have a pair of Dyno-Mites, "Hot Dog" style which is a 10" wide roller. Extremely portable for taking to races for crit warm ups, and it forces you to ride a pretty tight line. |

If you're not made of money, Tacx are perfectly acceptable., Kinky Cowboy* Kreitler rollers are hard to beat and will last a lifetime (with periodic bearing and belt replacement. I don't doubt that Kreitler are hard to beat for quality, but they're easy to beat for price.... If you have $400 to spend on rollers, spend $100 on Tacx and put the rest on deposit. You'll have made the price of a replacement set of Tacx rollers in interest before the first set wears out. Kinky Cowboy* I'll agree with you in principal, but as your signature states, "your mileage may vary." I put a TON of time and miles on the rollers each year. Fair point, I was talking about my level of use which is 2-3 hours a week during the winter. For very high mileage users, if the Kreitlers are as good as people say they are, they might represent value for money. Kinky Cowboy* *Batteries not included May contain traces of nuts Your milage may vary |
