Default Inside of helmet fit pads .. ?? Replacements ~ ??

I own a Bell Helmet.. EVO model .. I think that is it ..

The fit pads.. which are little sponge like dealy's which either
stick in or velcro in .. to the inside of the helmet..

They are worn from sweat etc..

I called REI .. nope.. they don't have em.

Looked on Nashbar .. could not find them..

What do ya do when the fit pads on the inside of the helmet
get worn out? Where can one find them?

Any good ideas?

Thanks all...

I'll bet there's a way to improvise using some type of foam weatherstripping
from Home Depot or Lowes.

Of the bits I've seen, that is always too thin.

Double it? Triple it? I don't believe this foam has a lot to do with
absorbing the impact, anyway. As far as I know, it's only there to improve
the fit of the helmet.

I cut fresh ones from the hunk of pad material that the good folks at my LBS
gave me--free--when I asked them if they sold replacements.

Have you tried something like that?

Too thin in both dimensions. You'd want something an inch wide.

This is not one of the original "Evo Pro" designs from back in the very
early 90s is it? If so, and if you believe helmets work, it's probably
time to get something newer. At that age, it's not just the expanded
polystyrene to be concerned about (which is basically inert but becomes
damaged from being knocked around over the years) but the straps. Straps
that old may not be in great shape, and it doesn't matter how the rest
of the helmet is holding up if the straps aren't up to snuff.

We frequently have customers coming in looking for pads for their
helmets, and ask them to bring the helmets in so we can figure out what
would work. But what we're actually doing is having them bring in these
fossils and show them how bad a shape the straps are in and that it's
probably not safe to continue using. If the helmet's in great shape, no
problem. But it's just not that expensive to buy a new helmet; what you
get for $45 now is a lot nicer than what $100 got just a few years ago.
