Prices slightly higher in the South and the West
And remember, kids... Schwinn bikes are the best! - Captain Kangaroo
RIP Bob Keeshan 1927-2004 - Bob Keeshan, who appeared on television as "Captain Kangaroo," said he and Rogers often spoke of how children's programming had become increasingly violent. "I don't think it's any secret that Fred and I were not very happy with the way children's television had gone," Keeshan said. |

Truly sad news from a few days ago...but I don't understand your Header.
Schwinn ads featured retail prices that represented what dealers in the Midwest sold them for, but the increased costs of shipping made them a bit higher elsewhere. So their ads always had that line in small print at the bottom. Typically about a $5 difference if I recall correctly; I believe my first Schwinn Varsity was advertised at $72.99 but in Northern California they were $77.99. --Mike-- Chain Reaction Bicycles www.ChainReaction.com "S o r n i" wrote in message ... That phrase was on the Schwinn price list at one time, in
the era of "fair trade" which is a euphemism for "price fixing". Sort of. It "fixed" pricing in both directions, at a margin that was so low it was nearly impossible to stay in business. If you didn't pre-order Schwinns by the container, and brought in bikes from the west coast warehouse, that $76 retail Varsity could cost you (the dealer) as much as $67. $9 to pay for assembly, floor space, salespeople... By requiring dealers to buy in *huge* quantities and tie up gobs of working capital, Schwinn could virtually guarantee that a dealer couldn't bring in a competing line. --Mike-- Chain Reaction Bicycles http://www.ChainReactionBicycles.com |
