Another cyclist doored.
The killings of cyclists by drivers just keep on happening. Why are our
roads allowed to be so dangerous? "A cyclist killed in north London may have hit an open car door immediately before he was knocked down by a bus, the Metropolitan Police has said. The victim, who was aged 25, died at the scene on Holloway Road, close to its junction with Jackson Road, at about 13:10 BST on Saturday. The 31-year-old driver of an Audi was arrested and bailed until 6 December. Police said they were keen to speak to any witnesses, including passengers on the 153 bus involved in the crash. A post-mortem test is to be held on the victim on Monday. His family have been told but he has yet to be formally identified, police added." http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-14438520 -- . "Phil W Lee" wrote in message ... You think he should have swerved into the path of the bus without being hit by the negligent driver? Drivers can be fined 100 USD for that in the USA. QUOTE: "Those on four wheels also bear responsibilities to the bicycling community. Drivers can now be ticketed for "dooring" a bicyclist--opening a car door into a passing cyclist is punishable by a $100 fine. Making a sudden right turn after passing a bike, called a "right hook" by some bicyclists, is now prohibited. -- Simon Mason http://www.simonmason.karoo.net/ |

You think he should have swerved into the path of the bus without being hit by the negligent driver? Why was he travelling too fast to stop and too close to miss the car? More observation, more distance and maybe slower would mean that he would not have crashed and would be OK now. The solution to the rapidly rising tide of KSI cyclists is to be found with ALL road users, and that includes cyclists taking some responsibility for their own safety, if they will not accept that they need to do that, then they should not be on the roads. The riding standards that I see every day are appalling, and in London it is much worse. |

And you're going to campaign for a ban on buses as well, I take it? The killings of cyclists by drivers just keep on happening. No it doesn't idiot. 33,000,000 drivers, 12,000 miles per annum, 136 deaths in 2007. Do the math ****wit. Why are our roads allowed to be so dangerous? Why are cyclists so ****ing thick? "A cyclist killed in north London may have hit an open car door immediately before he was knocked down by a bus, the Metropolitan Police has said. "May". Could someone explain why car drivers, who travel faster than cyclists, in wider vehicles, rarely if ever get 'doored'? Is it because drivers use observation & anticipation skills and cyclists are thick ****s? -- Dave - Cyclists VOR. You think he should have swerved into the path of the bus without being hit by the negligent driver? Why was he travelling too fast to stop and too close to miss the car? Probably trying to get (or stay) out of the way of the bus. Some blame should be placed at the door of those drivers who expect cyclists to get out of their way irrespective of the danger that it may place them in. Enough of them do it sufficiently often that it takes a level of assertiveness almost amounting to aggression not to fall victim to this. It /should/ be the case that cyclists followed by a professional driver should feel more secure about the standard of driving, but sadly, the reverse is often true. More observation, more distance and maybe slower would mean that he would not have crashed and would be OK now. Being more assertive on road positioning is the most likely thing to have helped on the part of the victim, but I've just pointed out the problems with that. The solution to the rapidly rising tide of KSI cyclists is to be found with ITYM rapidly falling. That's what the stats are showing. Not the latest ones, they show that ksi is up 36 per cent. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk...n-2333611.html |

Probably trying to get (or stay) out of the way of the bus. More likely just a thick ****. Some blame should be placed at the door of those drivers who expect cyclists to get out of their way irrespective of the danger that it may place them in. The scum should not be on the road anyway. Enough of them do it sufficiently often that it takes a level of assertiveness almost amounting to aggression not to fall victim to this. And cyclists are too thick to get the point. A push bike is a childs toy, not a viable form of transport. It /should/ be the case that cyclists followed by a professional driver should feel more secure about the standard of driving, but sadly, the reverse is often true. That might be the fault of the untrained, unlicensed push bike rider. More observation, more distance and maybe slower would mean that he would not have crashed and would be OK now. Being more assertive on road positioning is the most likely thing to have helped on the part of the victim, but I've just pointed out the problems with that. Observation & anticipation skills seem to work for motorists - why don'y slower moving, smaller cyclists use them? The solution to the rapidly rising tide of KSI cyclists is to be found with ITYM rapidly falling. That's what the stats are showing. Calling Judith. Will Judith please pick up the white telephone. ALL road users, and that includes cyclists taking some responsibility for their own safety, if they will not accept that they need to do that, then they should not be on the roads. The riding standards that I see every day are appalling, and in London it is much worse. So you are among the minority of drivers who encourage cyclists to stay in a dominant position in the lane, never tailgate or express frustration, wait patiently behind until it's absolutely safe to overtake and only ever pass in the manner pictured in rule 163 of the Highway Code? I'm among the majority of drivers who object to sponging freeloading scum getting in my way. You certainly can't tell that from your postings here. You can tell it from mine ****wit. -- Dave - Cyclists VOR.
