Indeed. How much was the good doping investigator's "award" worth in
$USA? I spent the allotted time looking for the cash amount, which was
not mentioned in the few sources I looked up before the coffee water
boiled.

I don't think you grasped the full sense of this section, Brian
(quoting from link above):
"But then after two hours of questioning and full confession, he
started to cry and couldn’t stop: he’d realised the abyss he’d fallen
into. He was a victim of the system, a person who was suffering but
who deserved respect and help. Especially because he’d have to pay a
high price, while those who had doped him, probably not.” (end quote)

That's encouraging, except that if he really believes that, then
someone from much higher up in the money tree should have been reduced
to tears after two hours (or much more) of questioning and a full
confession.

At least lip service is paid to the fact that the "system" in sports--
bike racing, American pro baseball, etc. etc., is at fault, starting
from the top, where the real money is made. The athletes, as ever, are
menials, and scapegoats.

Of course, the bigger the success, the more powerful the scapegoating!
Comes with the territory, right? Not to mention obsessions, personal
vendettas, book deals and so forth?

Gosh, do you think Novitsky will ever make judge? Wow, there'd be a
book, for sure, and probably a TV show, too.

No one has called me a ****tard yet this week, Brian. I'm a fresh,
unmarked target...
Hurry up, and I'll go get another cup of coffee, it's cool and rainy
out this morning in Austin.
