Stupid idea then, stupider idea now.

At 5'7" after 9 hours sleep, and a deep muscle back massage a 29er is
lost on me. Big wheels mean even less stand over clearance. Less than
0? Nevertheless Zinn makes a good case for bigger riders:

If it turns out they truly suck overall it's still an experiment worth
doing. The 26" wheel is an artifact of mountain bikes origins. No
testing went into determining an optimum diameter for an adult off road
bike. 26s were available so that's what was used. What if in ten years
every one rides a 29er because they're so much better (despite what my
nuts would have to say)? Some marketing weasel will decide that 32" is
worth a try. Maybe it will be great, maybe not. Maybe 29" is the sweet
spot, maybe 26". Can't know till someone does the experiment.
Not my money. :-)

I'd really love to try a 25" wheel with a fairly lightweight high
volume tyre. Tried a set of 24" wheels with DH tyres but they felt too
heavy for normal xc biking.

Nope. 5'5" and I have more clearance for my nuts on my 29er than on my
26ers.

Why be mean, I am not here to defend my bike skills or try to profess the
merits of 29 inch wheels. I built my Niner to get exercise and yes I like
long fireroad climbs. Actually I like going up better than down.

Bikes are my passion and I currently own three and try to ride every day.
Many people seem to want to let every know that they have the best
bike/skills, rather than remembering why we ride.

My nephew rides with me on his 20 inch wheeled BMX bike and he rocks, he is
number one amateur in the nation for his age group (16) and is sponsored by
Answer.

Even up by the head tube? When I need clearance, that's where I
invariably need it. :-o

Yup. At least in my case as the one I have is built for the vertically
challanged.
