Default Lubricants for chains and sprockets

I would think that a dry lubricant would mean a
longer life for the chain
and all the sprockets etc. Oil would trap small
particles of sand (unless you are riding on a dead
smooth grit-free surface) and the result is the
sand particles being ground between the wheels and
the chain, and in the chain itself, which means
more rapid wear. I think we need chain and gear
cases to keep the grit away if the oil is used.

Just one opinion, of course. Personally I like the
idea of the cases. Years
back I had an old 3-speeder with an oil-bath gear
case and that cut down the maintenance by way over
75%.

I've tried 'em all and keep coming back to 3-in-1. It's a bit messy, it
washes off in very heavy rain, but it's cheap, lubricates brilliantly
and actaully makes the chain quieter as it (notoriously) starts to gum
up a bit.
