Perhaps there was a reason for that. I do that sometimes when it is
not safe for a car to overtake but that all depends on the
circumstances.

I've been held up behind defective youths purposely weaving all over the
road just to antagonise drivers, this sound more like that than someone
"taking the lane", which doesn't require weaving about - if you need
to weave to stop someone passing, then there's almost certainly room
for them to pass safely if you stop arsing around.

"taking the lane" is antagonising to drivers & shouldn't be allowed.
Cyclists should know their place.

I actually agree with you on that (a first).
When I'm cycling along the narrow country roads around here, if I see or
hear car coming, I stop and pull over close to the edge of the road (no
footpaths) where necessary.

I do exactly the same when I'm walking.

Yup, it's only common sense.

Well, common sense and consideration.

You're a police officer, then?

How fast was he going?
What was the speed limit on that road?

From what was said in the OP, the cyclisty was clearly travelling at
significantly less than the speed limit.

Were there cars parked along the left hand side of the road?

The implication is that he could have been overaten safely but for his
anti-social behaviour.

If you're in any doubt about that, please re-read the post. What is
included (all of it) and what is not mentioned is all significant.

There is nothing else to mention.

In passing him I shouted "******" out of the passenger window.

Road manners at their best.

Deliberatly provoking and aggravating other road users is never a good
idea, is it?

I'm sure you won't.

Few, if any females would stop laughing at you being a cyclist long
enough. And if you did find a female who did, your cycling causes you to
fire blanks anyway.

Q; What do you call a cyclists girlfriend?
A; Inflatable.
