What are those under the chain ring, looks like a chain idler pully or tensioner of some sort. Is that(those) a 5 speed, I don't see a lower chain ring. In 1939, derailleurs hadn't settled down to the modern slant parallelogram with the double-jointed arm. Here are some side views: http://www.wooljersey.com/gallery/v/...+Bike.JPG.html http://www.wooljersey.com/gallery/v/...tombe.jpg.html Faintly visible: http://www.wooljersey.com/gallery/v/...ViewsIndex =1 The front tension arm isn't visible in these two photos, but the chain angles show what's happening: http://www.wooljersey.com/gallery/v/...eveau.JPG.html http://www.wooljersey.com/gallery/v/...Rossi.jpg.html Again, not visible, but the chain angle shows it on the right-hand bike, while the left-hand bike uses the strange new Cambio Corsa, whose axle moved back and forth and can be seen in action elsewhere on Aldo's gallery: http://www.wooljersey.com/gallery/v/...MSR39.jpg.html Actually, you _can_ see the tension arm--look at the reflection on the wet road. It's a good example of how frustrating it can be to look for equipment details in old photos--whatever you're looking for is usually blurred, obscured by the rider's foot, or on the other side of the bike. Here's a handy link to Aldo's thumbnail gallery: http://www.wooljersey.com/gallery/v/aldoross/pd/ Cheers, Carl Fogel |

Hello All, I'm looking to make some power-grip straps for my pedals. Can anyone give me insight to the composition of the strap material? I'm thinking that an old car seatbelt (doubled over) may be comparable. Any other ideas? Keiron G, I defo don't want toeclips so thats out. I reckon should be fine, although I'm trying to determine whether the eyelets will make it more so. As far as I can see getting your foot free from straps is straight forward. thanks |

further insight,
the power grip pedal strap seems to be attached to the pedal via, a steal plate attached by 2 screws that connect it where the reflector would screw into the pedal. On the nashbar website it lists the "more info" HARDWARE. LENGTH--------11 3/4 IN. WIDTH---------1 1/4 IN. MATERIALS-----ELASTOMERIC POLYMER LAMINATE HARDWARE------STAINLESS STEEL USED ON-------TRADITIONAL CLIP AND STRAP PEDALS. ROAD AND ATB. 060898TS My thought is that being 11 3/4 inches you measure your foot in the pedal and cut the rest away. I see there is small holes that adjust in what looks like 1/2 inch increments. It says elastomeric polymer laminate, you can look that up on the internet. I think it looks like it has something laminated in the strap to keep it looped in an arch so that you can get your foot into the strap(crush proof). link: http://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?c...%20Accessories "Keiron (number6)" wrote in message ...
