Riders honour friend's memory for hospital fund
Waverley Leader newspaper, 4 April 2006. Riders honour friend's memory for hospital fund Watching a mate die was one of the hardest moments of David Vanderwolf's young life. The 21-year-old Glen Waverley resident resorted to couselling after the death of his friend, Jason Devereux, who was hit by a car while crossing a Hawthorn road a year ago. The pair completed VCE together in Warrnambool before moving to Melbourne for university. On Friday, Mr Vanderwolf will lead a group of Jason's friends and relatives back to Warrnambool on bikes. The three-day ride aims to raise money for the Alfred's intensive care unit, where Jason was taken after the accident. The cycling concept grew from a vague idea and a few text messages to a cavalcade of at least eight riders and two support cars. The group will ride into Warrnambool on the first anniversary of Jason's death. "It seemed fitting to do it for his anniversary," Mr Vanderwolf said. The group plans to visit Jason's gravesite and his favourite Warrnambool pub. To show your support, phone Mr Vanderwolf on XXXX XXX XXX or send a donation to The Alfred Foundation, PO Box 201, Prahran, 3181. -- ghostgum |
