Bike Gurus,

My apologies to Shakespeare. I was wondering if there was any
consensus on this subject. I am referring to the Shimano type of
cables with the plastic core.

Yes, I have already checked for Gatorade under the bottom bracket and
there wasn't any.

Thanks,

Steve

Shakespeare lubed his bicycle cables with pine pitch that he got down in the
shipyard -- everybody knows they didn't have Gatorade back then.

Today, its all about polytetrafluoroethylene -- to PTFE or not to PTFE, that
is the core of the question.

So is that what they line these cables with? I don't recall teflon
being pink in color. Or is this some other kind of slippery plastic?

Steve

Teflon (PTFE) comes in colors. I've purchased schedule 80 pipe that was made
of PTFE to handle flows of hydrofluoric acid. The pipe was red. And
expensive. And at normal temperatures it was impervious to all kinds of
stuff, including petroleum distillates...
