73 degree or thereabouts stems
Hello:
Does anybody know who makes stems around that range? My new bike has a rather long headtube, and I need something to lower my bars. I know Ricthey made a 73, but apparently they discontinued that, or so I heard. Thanks. AC |

AC Dave sez: Bontrager makes a fine set of stems in -17 deg. Very stiff and not too expensive. You see them on e-bay a lot. Only trouble I have with them is the two bolt face plate and the bolts are not SS so they rust very fast in the road salt, other than that they are very good. However, thanks to the trend of fitting people on too-small frames with threadless headsets, stems such as these have become less common than they used to be. 90 degree plus 5 or 10 degrees uptilt is pretty much the norm. |

ps. The Deda's minimal 37mm steerer clamp also helps lower the bars.

Nomenclature has gotten impenetrable (-15?) but the stems haven't changed. Please name some ~73 deg ahead stems with 25.8 or 26.0 bar clamp. I only know of the Deda Zero and the Ritchey ones. It seems to me that, unlike quill stems, the norm angle for ahead stems is about 82 degrees, and that makes a crucial difference. Nomenclature has gotten impenetrable (-15?) but the stems haven't changed. I think the stems /have/ changed. ~PB |

I looked around and it looks like the Zero is no longer made. Anything
around -17 to -15 would be just fine. Thanks. AC "Pete Biggs" wrote in message ... AC wrote: Does anybody know who makes stems around that range? Deda Zero: 72 deg ~PB |
