Default Touring & Ride guides

Does anyone actually still buy ride and touring guides in Australia?
Went to the BNSW, BV and BSA sites last night looking to see what they
had in their shops. No bookshops anymore shops (MBJM).

The only guides I found mentioned on line were older "coffee table" books.

Aaargh, I understand your thought processes, but no, never. They usually
don't stock this sort of guide unless it is of their area.

I was asking the question as a general question to gauge how many are
still out here throught out Australia.

I am pretty sure that Bike Vic and SBS Cycling Central have city ride
guides but not a country ride guide. The country NSW ride guide is in my
local library but was published about 20 years ago. Still has good ideas
but things have changed since then. I am not sure if it has been updated
- the library only had one copy. Shame because there are good rides
around.

It is likely that BNSW and some LBS (Clarence Street) also have ride
guides.

Good question though.

You might be best to check out Cheeky Transport Cycle shop in Newtown as
they tend to cater for the touring & Courier crowd.

Hello Terry!
We have just purchased a book on rides in NZ and it is just an amazing
collection with over 400 rides in it. There are some wonderful rides up here
on the Atherton Tablelands, and in fact it is a a really untapped market.
It has seriously got me thinking of compiling a book of FNQ rides.
We have done a few long hauls around here, both off and on road, no traffic
for days to quiet back roads. I was researching a ride in SE Qld but was put
off by the traffic, but am thinking that locals would know many back roads,
it is just a case of finding the locals I presume :P. I met a young man on
the road a while back and offered him a hot food, hot shower and a warm bed,
and he followed me home via some great back roads. This guy was within one
day of completing his ride around Australia and it was the first time he had
ventured off the main road! We road thru the state forest up Ravenshoe way
and he was just in awe. We should all get together and put our rides on the
net maybe?

I have the Sydney City Guide from ????(gone awol atm), which is the last
(?) to be published(spiral bound with email updates)

Are you talking about one of the Swen klinge books? He put out about five
detail skimpy titles, but only one was reprinted. I do not know if any
of these have been revised.

There are a pile of other area detail book by various authors of similar
or older vintage. The only one that I know of that was reprinted was the
Jim Smith's Blue Mountains Guide in 1991declare interest

It is likely that BNSW and some LBS (Clarence Street) also have ride
guides.

Looked online, but shop seems to have disappeared.

I know touring discussion has been very thin on the ground here, but I
thought I'd ask

Good question though.

So, what do people really want in a guide?
routes to follow?
general area information?
how current?
$AUS20 too much to pay?

Nothing on website.

Have you been in and do they sell any Australian touring guides?
