Wow. Makes me appreciate a place where it's mostly hand gestures thrown at
me if anything.

But this is the first time I've heard that cycling deaths are 2.9% of all
road deaths there. (2% in the US). Is that accurate?

If what you're doing is important, the long-term solution is
easy... Video.

Recording video nowadays is free and easy. Strap it to your helmet
or wherever and record what happens. Besides using rechargeable
batteries, it costs nothing. If you're in a group with several
riders doing so, the evidence will be that much more persuasive.

I've found, and reported here before, that just fitting the video camera to the rear rack keeps the SUVs further off my back in the narrower ways, and stops them using the horn and racing the engine to intimidate me. The best cameras for this purpose are ones that as a whole are lens-shaped, with a flip-out screen; these clearly work better than the flat type like the Kodak Zx1 (a cheap waterresistant sports camera I like because you can buy a shockproof tyre-tread cover for it which makes it just about indestructible).

In NSW, there were 14 dead cyclists from a total of 339 dead road users.

A little over 4%.

I think the 2.9% is probably correct for the entire country.

A lot of folks do that now. We even have a startup company making rear
facing integrated tail lights with camera.
