$750 SWB Recumbent at Chuck's Bikes (same as ActionBent Tidal Wave)
Chuck's Bikes, a US-based online clearance outlet for surplus and blem bike
frames and components, has begun selling a Taiwanese SWB called the "Tsunami Recumbent" for $750 + shipping. This SWB/USS bike appears to be identical to the ActionBent Tidal Wave, but $245 cheaper. http://www.chucksbikes.com/store/indexcb014.htm The componentry is excellent: DuraAce, 105, LX. The Cyclone cranks are quite good. Shifting should be fantastic on this bike, as Dura Ace barcons are the best shifters on the planet (IMO). The rear wheel is 700c, and front wheel is 451mm. It was quite surprising to see a recumbent at Chuck's, or any similar online bike shop. With the remarkable offerings presented at Interbike 2003, and Sun's recent announcements of greatly expanded offerings, I think 2004 could be a banner year for low-priced recumbents in the US market. The barrier to entry is being lowered, which is going to grow the US market, and drive demand for the higher-end and custom offerings. It's a great time to be alive, isn't it? -Barry |
