Starved of investment by councils who spend too much of their revenue on the
exaggerated pensions of their retirees English roads are in a dire state. The
Olympic Road Race parcours is probably better ridden on a mountain bike.

http://www.cyclingnews.com/features/...ad-race-course

"At the top the new tarmac runs out, giving way to a surface that’s heavy and
very bumpy, even by the low standards of British roads. It’s so jarring that
just taking a drink is stressful and that’s without being in a tightly packed bunch.
Wüst isn’t impressed: “It’s ****,” he summarises, very concisely."

Should be enormously entertaining to watch. I don't think Cav is quite the big
favourite the media here are building him up to be, with no race radios some
sneaky continental type could get away and stay away.

Ah yes, the Olympic Follies are here again, replete with all the Fun of
The Fair: Dancing Underwater, Skateboarders, Bowls Players and a couple
of thousand hookers roaming the streets and anxious to relieve any horny
spectator of his (or her for that matter) Roubles for a dubious few
minutes of pleasure in a back-alley/hotel/parked-car/etc. and a fair
chance of getting a dose of Clap (or worse).

Davey's also getting reports that thousands of Romanian citizens,
spitefully called Gypsies when they actually prefer Roma, will be on
hand to demonstrate their traditional way of life, minus of course the
knife sharpening and clothes-peg vending enterprises since they couldn't
get a license to use the Games Logo on their wagons.

But reports coming in indicate that the Follies are not quite ready yet
and some nasty newspapers, Republican ownned, not Monarchist, are
beginning to ask whether the current edition of the Follies will be the
best Games Ever, or merely the Biggest **** Up since Arnhem

They've got off to a good start by displaying the South Korean flag at a game
that actually involved North Korea. I bet that went down ever so well at gulag
central.

That's funny because I think we'll see the MTB racers edging closer
to road equipment for their race. It looks like they threw a couple
of rocks onto a bike path and let it go at that.

I ride these ****ing roads every week when I'm in the UK, on some sections
getting the bottle back into it's cage is an art in itself. Great
Britain...first world country, third world infrastructure.

The MTB course being 'third world' in that they didn't want to devote too much
effort to it...it's only cycling after all. The sporting powers that be in the
UK still don't 'get' cycling at all.
