Winter Biking Gloves?
Folks,
It's getting cold in the mornings around here again. I've got my winter riding outfit all set, except for a good pair of gloves. I want: - A windproof outer shell - Bright-colored or reflective shell, so cars can see hand signals - Thin insulation, so they're not too bulky - Individual fingers I can find ski gloves that have 1, 3, and 4, but I cannot find any that fit 2. Any ideas? Thanks, - Paul Bruhn |

Where's here? I live in Portland and here the only option with the rain
would be rain-proof gloves which are bulky and hot. So I just wear glove liners under regular gloves and live with the wet. They're pretty warm and do fine over a 20 mile ride or so. They just have to be dried out after that. Preston |

Here in MA, I need gloves that are all of the above, but they have to be
warm down to zero degrees F. Any recommendations? Paul Bruhn wrote: Folks, It's getting cold in the mornings around here again. Any recommendations? i'd be surprised if any individual finger glove will get you down to 0F comfortably. i've used the pearl izumi amfib or pittards (with a liner) down that low but i wouldn't say it was overly comfortable. to go to 0F or below i'd be thinking at least lobster glove style. lose the thin insulation requirement as well tho the pittards are reasonably thin but they were cold at 0F even with a liner. kept my fingers, tho. -- david reuteler |

XLarge Goretex mitt covers (mine happen to be LL Bean) with large Nashbar polartek mittens under them, seems to work for me. You can wear 2 polarteks I guess too. How much of a problem it is depends strongly on whether you circulate lots of blood to the fingers when your wrist is cold, and what having your hands fixed on the handlebars does. The large mitt covers come up past the wrist and so keep the wrist warm, which encourages the circulation to the fingers not to shut down. -- Ron Hardin On the internet, nobody knows you're a jerk. |

I use lobster gloves with an additional liner, and rode to zero last year. Above a certain temperature, say 20 or so, the lobster gloves work well. -- Bob M in CT Remove 'x.' to reply |
