Default 32 bridge across the Albemarle Sound

I'm looking for info on the 32 bridge across the Albemarle Sound in North
Carolina going to Edenton. Anyone know if that bridge is bicycle safe? I
have heard differenting opinions. It is on the Adventure Cycling maps as
part of the east coast route. I will be touring that area in about two
weeks and wonder if I should detour to the hwy 17 bridge further west. If
it has at least a foot or so of shoulder I'll ride it. That meets my
requirments for bicycle safe usually. Thanks for any help.
