Training: Coker 15 mile and 25km time trials - 15.32 MPH (24.66 km/h)
This training time trials ride follows a new out and in loop repeated
three times for a total distance of 15.70 miles. An average speed of 15.3 MPH on the computer was maintained throughout the final loop, so times could be reasonably computed for the 15 mile and 25 km distances from the final average speed of 15.32 MPH over the 15.70 miles covered in 1:01:30. The ride was completed on 10 September 2003. The table of of the distances, times, average & maximum speeds a Date Distance Time Ave Speed Max Speed Comments 20030910 15 miles 00:58:45 15.32 MPH 17.4 MPH Computed time 20030910 25 km 01:00:49 24.66 km/h 28.0 km/h Computed time 20030910 25.28 km 01:01:30 24.66 km/h 28.0 km/h 15.70 miles My computer reads out distances in miles and I converted between miles and kilometers via the commonly used (slightly imprecise) conversions: 1 mile = 1.61 km 1 km = 0.62 miles My cycle computer has a 2769mm circumference programmed and the Coker has slight wear in two spots (not ready for the first tire rotation). I used a Deluxe Coker, 125mm cranks, GB handle, and a completely flat Miyata Air Seat. I was still surprised how comfortable the ride was. My Miyata Air Seat had developed a fast (one minute) air leak and rather than repair it, I simply raised the seat an inch to account for the missing inch of air in my seat. My previous best time trial training ride was a 15.59 mile ride in 1:01:46 on 5 Sept. for an average speed of 15.14 MPH (24.38 km/h). Sincerely, Ken Fuchs |

You should try that in a Velodrome. Something to consider: You rode approximately half the bicycle hour record and you ride half the the number of wheels. -- GizmoDuck - Cokernut "I'll be there with bells on!" You wildman! Way to go. That is fast. I assume the terrain is flat...could you go faster with 110mm cranks? Thank you, Nathan! Yes, the triple out and back route I'm using is relatively flat. It has a few very slight (noticeable) slopes up and down. I haven't tried 110 mm cranks, but that probably would allow significantly faster speeds on this route. However, the 110 mm cranks would make at least one local hill impossible or at least extremely difficult to climb. Sincerely, Ken Fuchs |
