intersections on my commute that would sit with the pedestrian light on

traffic got the red.

Are you really that keen to get to work?
Why not practise trackstands or something at the lights?

So how long is *your* record again?
3 minutes? is I believe what they say

Trackstands? I've never timed.
No wind, good bit of road, it could be all day, but I'd rather ride

I'm confuzzed?! :S

Roll up, trackstand, unbalance and dab, trackstand, unbalance and dab,
trackstand, repeat until you can do freewheel no handers while reading
the paper and adjusting your perm..

So can I, but it's legal, unlike busting reds. It's not even breaking
the law that I'm most concerned with. I'm more worried about the
attitude some drivers take when they see one rider running a red. They
apply this to all riders and become less likely to make an
concessions
for us - the bunch of lawless rebels.
I know because I do this myself when driving. I let people in, UNLESS
it's the **** that just stormed down the bike lane or whatever. If 'I'
try and exact my own justice, there must be a percentage of other
drivers who do it too.

OK hippy, you're starting to make sense now. Fwiw, I go through re
lights _if no one is looking_ and if it's clear, but stop when peopl
are watching for the same reasons you outline up there.

I thought I was the only one! The view is great from up here on th
moral high ground!

BTW, is there a technical reason why you chose Zona and
Genius instead of, say, Foco or Ultra Foco?

Yes, there is.

The tubes are actually for two frames. The Zona stuff is for "Auda
bike II", while the Genius stuff is for a road race bike (replacemen
for my daggy old Colnago). Zona is a current tubeset, and is
mid-range set with most tubes having 0.8mm walls at the end and 0.
walls at the middle, with reasonably long butted sections. It's a goo
set to use for a touring bike, where a little extra metal is useful.

Genius (discontinued a few years back), Foco, Ultrafoco, Life (replace
Foco a year or two ago), and Spirit (replacement for Ultrafoco) are al
reasonably similar super-duper lightweight high-zoot-factor tubesets.
Spirit and Ultrafoco are only available in enormous tube diameters, s
they're no good for me. All the others have 0.7mm (Genius) or 0.65m
(Foco/Life) walls at the tube ends, and 0.4mm tube walls at the middle
making for a really lightweight frame (lightweight for steel, anyway).

The difference between Genius and Foco/Life is in the length and shap
of the butted sections. On Foco and Life, the butted bits are onl
35mm long. This is okay for TIG (or fillet), but with lugs, the tip o
the lug extends past the butted section. There's a danger (whether it'
perceived or imaginary is up for debate) that the end of the lug is mor
likely to cut into the tube, sort of like an old-fashioned can-opener.

Genius has ever-so-slightly longer butted sections than Foco and Life
so (at least for the size frames I'm building) the whole lug sit
within the butt.

The penalty in weight is only a few grams, but the added reasurance i
well worth it.

Regards,

Suz

My town only has one set of traffic lights and I always stop when
they're red.

Bad luck, but looks gleefully did you sic the cops onto 'em?

I'm a one-track mind, aren't I?

I got all their details in both cases and reported them to the police
who natuirally took no action. As I was either going to or from work
both were Workers Comp cases hence I had to report them. I actually
had no time off work but with the broken ribs I should have had a
couple of days off because getting out of bed was agonising.

Apparently my employer pursues the driver if the claim costs them more
than $2000 because they are a self insurer but being on light(er)
duties for a month wasn't counted as a cost.
