As a vehicular road user: if you find pedestrians walking in the road, and they cannot see you, then yes, it is a good idea to establish contact and slow down if you don't get it, whether you are on a bike or a car, (especially if it is a quiet vehicle). the highway code has advice on this. I look forward to experiencing that on the (shared use) road when I'm cycling and I'm passed by a car but I won't hold my breath for it. Tony I have found that a warning toot when approaching a wobbly cyclist would usually be met with a torrent of abuse and/or waved appendages. I find it better to wait until you are just about to pass - and then give a real good hoot on the horn. This is the best way to make them aware of your presence and much safer for all parties. |
