Default Raleigh Randonneur headset

Does anyone happen to know what size (threaded) headset I would need for
a late 1990s Raleigh Randonneur? 1" or 1-1/8"? I don't really want to
dismantle it all just to measure!

Thanks

stemdiameter 7/8", spannersize for the topnut 1 1/4" - 1" headset
stem 1" , spannersize 1 3/8" or bigger - 1.125" headset

Thanks Marten and James. I make that 1" on both counts, so 1" it is!

Cheers guys

Eh? According to Martin's post it is a 1.125" headset.
I am probably being stupid (can't see the wood for the trees ,not
unusual then) but surely 1.125 IS 1 1/8"

I though Marten's post gave two sets of dimensions (spanner size, stem
diameter) for both 1 inch and 1.125 inch. Paul (the OP) didn't say
what he'd got, but (presumably) went away and measured the bits Marten
listed and decided which he had.

but surely 1.125 IS 1 1/8"

This bit is true.

See said I was thick, I see now all those numbers are two sets of
dimensions, I had just noticed the "headset =" at the end, so thought it
was saying the headset WAS 1 1/8" not those were the sizes IF the
headset was 1 1/8.

Tim beat me to it! The spanner size for the top nut is 1.25", = 1"
headset.

It had better be, because that's what I've now bought! Another niggle
is that there seem to be two fork crown sizes; 26.4mm and 27.0mm I'm
pretty sure that the latter is Japanese, but I'm still a tad nervous.

There are actually three. 26.5 is french. My road bike has a french
fork crown race because I split the English sized one and figures a
french on ewould fit better. It seems to.

Relax. Raleigh Randonneurs were 1" threaded, absolutely, definitively,
until the very end.

26.4 is correct, and 27.0 is indeed JIS. The other issue is stack height: I
remember only that an early-nineties Shimano XT HP-M735 was just about
perfect for mine, while a later Shimano STX was too tall.
