Default Follow up Saddle questions

Well thanks for all the advise.
After doing some experimenting, with saddle angle and stem / handlebar
height position,
it seems that the saddle may only be a small part of the problem.
I have adjusted the saddle to a more upward angle and
raised the stem height about 4 or 5 inches.
These adjustments seem to cut down on the discomfort I was feeling on my sit
bones.
There is still a bit of discomfort, in my opinion it seems to be the contact
of my bones on the body / underside shell
of the saddle. I still think a new saddle is in order, the saddle I am
riding on is a "stock" Wal - Mart quality bike saddle.

Now that I have made these adjustments, the bike looks FUNNY, the handlebars
are way up!
They are probably about a good 4 inches above the headset lock / jam nut.
I have never seen a road bike with bars this high.

Make sure they're not too high!

Many stems have a little mark indicating the max extension
that is safe. Don't raise it up beyond that mark if one is
there.

I've successfully extended the stem "a bit" over the mark for
years without any bad things happening, and I confess I've
never actually heard of anything bad coming from anyone else
doing so.

I presume they put the mark there for good reason though.

You bet they do.
It can be quite dangerous to exceed the mark. Think of holding a broom
in the middle with your whole hand wrapped around it. Pretty good grip.
Now hold it at the end of the stick with only one inch of broom handle
in your hand. Not so easy! Perhaps a bit more extreme than "a bit over
the line" but the principle is the same.
