Probably because a lot of people these days are using cell phones or other non-regular computers and perhaps aren't able to trim but are forced to include the entire message? I notice that in my email account that those who use a cell phone can't trim the original message from the reply.

(smile) well, according to the label the Red Bull is about equal to a
cup of very strong coffee with a lot of sugar in it. The litre of
water is more or less what the Medics will give you for loss of blood
volume and the fruit cake tastes good :-)


I don't know where you get your ingredients from since Red Bull

has about the same caffeine as a quarter cup of weak coffee.

Most of the ingredients are water and salts with a bit of sugar and flavoring.


I can't comment on how your Red Bull is mixed, it does vary from
country to country, but the original 100 ml. bottle sold here in
Thailand had 80 mg. caffeine which is about the same as a strong cup
of coffee. One bottle used to be 100 ml. so it was about 80%
caffeine.

The original formula - still sold here - contained water, cane sugar,
caffeine, taurine, inositol and B-vitamins, although I believe that
the original 80mg. caffeine has now been reduced to 50 mg.

A person I know saw a documentary where they gave rats
either sugar-free or normal sodas and energy drinks.

They also gave the rats access to food.

Apparently the experiment showed that the rats that
got the non-sugar drinks ate more food, and had
a slower metabolism.


Perhaps because dietary sugar is converted to the simple sugars that
power the muscles much quicker then other carbohydrates are converted.

It probably depends on just what sort of "fruit cake" it is. I used to
make some with honey, peanut butter and oat meal, with a box of
raisins thrown in for "fruit". Certainly more then empty calories
there :-)

Not to mention that those who build fences (from where Joerg claimed to scrounge a nail) do NOT use concrete nails or any other hardened steel nail.

Still easier and better to use a chaintool on a bicycle chain.

You are speaking of a chap who says he can't be bothered to carry a
6mm hex wrench to tighten the screws on his rear suspension but brags
of carrying gallons of beer. Apparently he does little, if any,
maintenance but is a very heavy drinker.... which may account for some
of his stories :-)

Actually, 8.4 oz of Red Bull (a can) has 80 mg of caffeine. A cup of coffee varies. My usual poison, a double shot of espresso, has 100 mg of caffeine.

I get caffeine in GU gel packs, which are kind of bail-out food. Way back when, I got caffeine and ephedra in Pocket Rockets -- one of the first gel packs. I ate so many of those in a long road race 20+ years ago that I was shaking by the end of the race and couldn't sleep that night. My drink of choice is Hammer Heed -- which is easy on my stomach and actually makes my muscles feel less tired. GU packs for a quick burst and head-clearing, and Cliff Bars for food (among other things). Try a good sports drink from a mix.

Correction - a cup of weak coffee contains about the same - 80 mg of caffeine as Red Bull. But any of the brand coffee shops a cup of coffee contains about 200 mg of caffeine and the "cups" you get contain quite a bit more than a cup.

I do not take Red Bull as an "energy drink" but as a recovery drink and replacement of electrolytes after our conversations here and it does appear to make a difference. The 56 miles I did yesterday was with light wind on the way out and into about 15 mph on the flats coming back and up to 20 or more over the passes coming back. I'm a little tired today but not exhausted as usual.

But it's hard to tell since I am starting to get back in shape and dropped the extra weight I put on on the cruise.

If you want a real stimulant during take Jolt. It clocks in at almost
200mg/can of caffeine and the 20oz suposedly is closer to 300mg. No idea
what that's good for on a bicycle although I must confess that I did
fall asleep on a road bike once, on my way to school as a kid. Luckily
there was no ditch next to the bike path but a flat grassy area.

Reminds me of the "tank chocolate" the German army gave some troops in
WW-II. AFAIK that was crystal meth.
