It's already happening. Several years ago I got lost because an
intersection sign had rotated ninety degrees and the county hadn't
bothered to rotate it back.

Sometimes I can't find the sign at all.

I was once cited for running a stop sign. The next day I went back to
the intersection and found that the stop sign was completely hidden by
a tree and bushes that had grown up since the sign was installed.

I live in New England, where yankee frugality dictates that road signs
on the main roads are a frivolous waste of money, only the minor roads
are marked. IMHO the thinking is that if you don't recongize the main
roads you're obviously not from around here, and are better off lost
most of the time. In the past few years, though there has been an
effort to improve road signage, which I would hate to see reversed.
