Driver guilty of killing cyclist
He admitted failing to stop and failing to report the accident, but /still/
pleaded not guilty. I have not the words. Nor, I imagine, does he. Shackleton wrote this:- http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/scotland/3396915.stm A van driver has been found guilty of causing the death of a cyclist in a hit-and-run accident. [snip] Ian Young had pleaded not guilty to the charge but had admitted other offences including failing to stop and failing to report the accident. Young will be sentenced next month at the High Court in Edinburgh and faces the prospect of being sent to prison. I suppose it is too much to expect the BBC to tell us precisely what he has been found guilty of. I doubt if there is an offence of "causing the death of a cyclist". -- David Hansen, Edinburgh | PGP email preferred-key number F566DA0E I will always explain revoked keys, unless the UK government prevents me using the RIP Act 2000. |

(victim) clearly visible as he had been wearing a bright fluorescent jacket and had a red flashing rear light on his bike. After a public appeal and an extensive search, police found Young's damaged Mercedes van. Git. Surely if he had any he would have stopped and reported the incident. This seems appropriate. From: http://www.exsands.com/Misc4/inquisition_xfq_ex.htm "The Wheel was one of the most excruciating methods of torture and execution practiced in medieval Europe, in that it was not only painful but also humiliating. Second only to hanging, the wheel was the most prevalent means of execution employed throughout Germanic Europe from the early Middle Ages until the dawn of the eighteenth century. In this particular process, the victim was forced to lie naked on the ground, with all four of his limbs spread out and bound to stakes or iron rings. Wooden slats were then placed beneath the wrists, elbows, ankles, knees and hips. Afterward, the executioner shattered each limb, joint by joint until finally, the crushed extremities were "braided" into the spokes of the large wheel. The victim was then hoisted to the top of the pole, where crows would devour the remains of his flesh and pluck out his eyes. The sheer goriness of this technique made it a popular public spectacle, which led to many victims being executed by the wheel on display in the major public squares of Europe between 1450 and 1750." |

They should change that to Manslaughter at the least! I wonder what he would have got had the unfortunate person only been "shaken"? Having injured the man he left him at the scene, not dead but dying. That kind of sub-human cowardice should itself be grounds enough for manslaughter on its own. Let's see what sentence he actually gets. -- Dave... |
