Yep. Never ride in the door zone.

On other fora, there are people praising the "Dutch Reach," which is the
habit of opening your driver's door with your right hand. (Reverse that
for drive-on-left countries.) The idea is, it twists the driver into a
slightly better position for looking back for oncoming door-zone
bicyclists.

But others have demonstrated via photographs that even with the Dutch
Reach, it can be extremely difficult to spot a cyclist. And could a
cyclist really be sure every motorist exiting a parked car has learned
from that trickle of Dutch Reach publicity? Of course not!

Never ride in the door zone.

Over here, in a country that general has the most, or almost most,
auto accidents in the world opening a door on the traffic side of the
car is hazardous... so people generally open the door a crack and peek
out before they open the door fully. Opening the door in front of a
bicycle might result in minor damage to the door, but opening it in
front of a 10 wheel truck is an altogether different proposition. So
bicycles benefit from big trucks :-)

cheers,

John B.

Sure, but to catch the real drama (rbt), zoom into the photo: The chain
looks rusty and unlubed!!

Or a clean, lubed drivetrain and a strong American flasher in the middle. It
is your choice. The reward may be ... a more honorable mention on rbt."
