Default MTB in Greece

Hey guys I'm a 'newby' to this group. I live in Australia and will be
in Greece mid June 2006, I was thinking about taking my trusty dualy
with to sample some of what Greece has to offer. I was thinking about
signing up with an adventure touring company and doing an epic ride
over, say 3-4-5 days, I'm just not sure who to pick or where the best
place are to ride? If Greece is not recommended I could always travel
to neighbouring countries. I'd really appreciate some help on this.
Thanks in advance. Sules

Greece is an excellent country for cycle touring. There is a lot of
information, and photos, on my cycling page:

I've been on a couple of off road holidays in Lefkas, an ionian island
not too far away from Kefalonia. I used a company called mountain beach
holidays

http://www.mountain-beach.co.uk/

although their web site is being updated at the moment.

I went for a week long stay in Lefkas with different rides every day,
although wednesday was a "day off". They also do a tour around a number
of different islands, so you can get to see a bit more terrain. The
tour is a bit easier going than the hotel based stuff in Lefkas.

Take plenty of sun cream.

I have cycled on a number of Greek Islands and although got very burnt on
the arms a couple of times I really enjoyed it. You can hire quite good
hardtail MTBs for around 5 Euros per day on most islands so unless you are
going to do it big style I wouldn't bother taking a bike with you. Ferries
between islands are regular and reasonably priced I would start at Skiathos
there is only one tarmac road around 12k long the rest are mountain tracks
with great views and beaches. From Skiathos you could island hop down
towards Crete and then back. Could spend the whole summer doing it (I wish).

Best of luck and enjoy the hospitality of the lovely Greek people.

Cliff
