Default Single piece crank to 3 piece conversion

I know that at least one company offers a kit to change from the old single
piece to a standard 3 piece, they sell the kits at harris cycle via
www.sheldonbrown.com and was wondering if anyone has done this and what the
outcome of the conversion was?

Ken

The outcome was a 3-piece crank in an Ashtabula-sized BB shell, which
allowed better bearings, less weight an triple chain-rings.

The conversion was done with a kit not purchased at Harris Cyclery, but
as far as I can tell they all work about the same.

Remember that you need pedals, too. Worked well on the two that I've
done.

Just wondering, what kind of bikes did you do this too? I have this old
early 80's murray 10 speed. It's in nice shape but still has the single
piece crank yuck!
