I've seen mention of this in VN and someone on RBR made mention of this
film. I just checked our local non-Hollywood dumbinated theater site
(www.thenick.com) and found The Triplets of Belleville will show at the
Nickelodeon in Santa Cruz, CA on Jan. 16

Guess I can pack a few rides in in the meantime.

Thanks Rich, I've been trying to figure out how I could see it. I'll
even bring Jenson along.

I just saw Les Triplettes de Belleville, it's great. Apparently it's
called "Bellevile rendez-vous" in English: check out the website
http://www.bellevillerendezvous.com/ it gives a good impression of the
movie. In the flash popup, be sure to have a look at the 'Photos'
(center top). The movie is full of funny details, like a little sign
'Chien chaud' on a fastfood diner. There is so much truth in all the
outrageous hyperboles, very good.

Go see it!

Oh I forgot; be sure to stay 'til the very end, there's a funny tidbit
after the credits.

IIRC, "Chien Chaud" is actually the term used in Quebec.

I wasn't that taken by the film. I didn't stay for the credits. What was the
funny bit at the end.?

Please don't mock the RBR humor standards. We already have no self-esteem.

I did not know that. Funny people, those Québécois.

I can see how the movie might appeal less to North-Americans, as a
large part of all the funny business is mocking them, especially the
fat ones (which according to the movie is almost everybody, of
course).

To not spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen the movie yet, see further
below for the funny bit.

It was a shot of the rent-a-waterbike guy, still on the beach and
impatiently looking at his watch and the horizon.

They use all kinds of Frenchify all kinds of things that even the
French use English for.

Don't underestimate how much people enjoy seeing themselves mocked.

Surely not. I'm reliably informed that many North American cyclists over
30 have a BMI under 30 and therefore cannot be considered obese
according to the 'Masters is the Wave of the Future' thread from a few
weeks ago.
