The Awkward Season
It's too cold to risk getting wet, but not cold enough that any precipitation would bounce off. I've located my fleece pants and the tapes to tie around my knees, but I'm not sure I remember how to put them on. Pins at the ankles, I think. I only wore tights alone once before the nippy set in. No more cinnamon basil to put in my water bottle. And I think it's time to stop chilling it. -- joy beeson at comcast dot net http://joybeeson.home.comcast.net/ The above message is a Usenet post. I don't recall having given anyone permission to use it on a Web site. |

The rainy season is nearly over and you can usually get a ride in with maybe only one or two wet bits, but in a couple of weeks that will be over and we'll be into the "good riding season". Almost cool enough to need a scarf in the morning and it doesn't get really hot until about noon so you can get in a good six hour ride without worrying about heat prostration :-) -- Cheers, John B. |

I made my first two commutes this week in long cycling pants (I had been in shorts since early May) and I have yet to wear fleece for insulation, but I think I'll need to next week. http://www.theweathernetwork.com/14-day-weather- trend/canada/ontario/ottawa -- Andrew Chaplin SIT MIHI GLADIUS SICUT SANCTO MARTINO (If you're going to e-mail me, you'll have to get "yourfinger." out.) |

When I first resumed biking after more than a decade hiatus, I assumed that I would need a car for the winter. But winter was over before I found the right deal. I figured that if I survived that winter (northern Indiana), I could survive the next one, and I did. And the next. I still haven't got the hand of dressing properly--I've arrived at a business meeting with a sweaty torso and just a minute or two short of frostbite in toes. My fourth winter is coming up.... Before the hiatus, I lived in San Diego and worked at a place that had showers. So a half-hour commute could be done any day. -- Wes Groleau Nutrition for Blokes: Re-engineering your diet for life http://www.phlaunt.com/quentin |

That said, you're a braver man than I if you ride at all in Montréal. Those *******s are nuts--predictable, but predictably nuts. -- Andrew Chaplin SIT MIHI GLADIUS SICUT SANCTO MARTINO |
