Default Schoolgirl, 12, fighting for life after being struck in hit-and-run+warning to cyclists

A young girl is fighting for her life after she was struck in a
hit-and-run while walking along the pavement in Berkshire. The
12-year-old was with her family when the van crashed into her and failed
to stop at the scene, in Newbury.

Seems to be a recurring theme.

Warning to all cyclists, you're not even safe if you ride on the
pavements because these type of killer drivers don't care if you are a
cyclist/pedestrian or whatever.

Sounds like a case of excess alcohol to me (no, not the 12-yr-old
schoolgirl).

There ought to be a law agin it.

There is, but it doesn't appear to prevent these typesof hit and runs

happening with alarming regularity.

The answer(s) is/are obvious, I suggest.

1. A more-or-less permanent publicity campaign in respect of
drink-driving. Remember how we were introduced to motoways by PIFs? Why
the technique was abandoned is a mystery.

2. Robust enforcement of the law and sentencing.
