Latest quarter: Drop in road deaths, but cyclist casualties rise.
3 per cent down for killed overall (despite a half percent rise in
motorised traffic, 5 per cent down for KSI, BUT cyclists up 4 percent on deaths and 12 percent on KSI. Perhaps cyclists road techniques need improving ? http://road.cc/content/news/98492-la...ist-casualties |

However, there were increases in the number of casualties for motorcyclists (4 per cent) and pedal cyclists (12 per cent), with an 8 per cent increase in the number of motorcyclist KSI casualties and a 4 per cent increase in pedal cyclist KSI casualties" |

The overall UK mean rainfall between April and June 2012 was extremely high compared with the long term average for this period. In comparison with this, the UK mean rainfall level between April and June 2013 was 40 per cent lower, returning to the long term average. It is therefore likely that the markedly drier weather in 2013 would have increased the number of vulnerable road users (particularly motorcyclists and pedal cyclists) on the road, relative to the same period in 2012, thus increasing their relative exposure to accidents. =====/Quote===== So while the number of casualties increased, the casualty rate may have decreased. (Don't tell this to Medwit though, he doesn't understand the concept of a casualty rate). |

So motor traffic increases and their casualties fall, while bicycle numbers increase and their casualties rise. Sounds like bicycles are not very sensible road transport OR they are not safely and responsibly used. |

a very large number of cyclists crashes are caused by their own stupidity, so who else can be blamed? What percentage "are caused by their own stupidity"? |

Cyclists up, cyclist casualties up, cyclist casualty rates down (cycling getting safer) if the percent increase in cycling exceeds the percent increase in cycling casualties. (Please don't do a Medwit on me). |
