Default Buses vs bicycles - Seven news special report

Seven News are doing a special tonight in Sydney - Buses versus Bicycles.

http://seven.com.au/news/newstips_sydney_bikesvsbuses

The question they're asking is "Should bicycles be banned from transit
lanes" and the answer they're giving in the promos is yes.

My view is, while bikes do hold up buses to some extent - that extent is
tiny and it's an order of magnitude less than parking in transit lanes
outside peak times holds up buses - ever tried catching a bus in an
inner city suburb (say, King St Newtown or Oxford St Paddington etc)
with cars parked in those lanes? The bloody things take forever.

Anyway - get those comments out there - there's a feedback form on that
page.

I got forced to watch 7 news last night for the first time in ages..
It really is just a typical poor current affairs show masquerading a
news... (I mean, most TV news shows are, but this is reall
obvious/blatant)..

Comment sent along these lines:
The only traffic that is slowed by me in the transit lane (Hoddle St)
are the cars driving in there illegally. The buses are usually doing
about the same pace as me.

Anybody care to ask why I watch no broadcast TV whatsoever these days?
:P (Tim already knows the answer.)

My view is that busses are okay, they don't slow me down too much. Except
when I'm climbing up hill, can't take the left most real lane, and they stop
me all the time losing me momentum.

Other than that, busses don't slow me down when I'm using the transit lane.

yours,
Sam.

You found a reliable bit torrent site?

You bought a big bad satellite for your yard and cannot drag yourself
away from Neighbors broadcast live from Siberia?

Oh, "no" broadcast tv.. um.. you traded it in on a new bike?

You are a rockstar in your other life and threw it out a window?

You needed a CRT for some strange alien communication experiment?

hah! Vic Parade?

perhaps your rellie can tell ya all about Ch7's official 'unofficia
bought story' policy. Eg, latest one is the late news/TT one abou
teenage girl with longterm wrist injuries from SMSing too muc
(no.really). Next week miraculously a product is being launched fro
(big phoneCo here) who's product amazingly will alleviate suc
problems!!!

someone on here can probably tell all about a radio network's pre-pai
stories too.

Remember the toxic shock syndrome story about a girl whom died afte
using a synthetic tampon? same deal. Planted story. I actally worked o
that campaign (the shame). Strangley by the time it all was shown to b
irrelevant, Cottons Tampons had become near-market-leader.

So wouldnt surprise me if bus co/union is in the middle of enterpris
bargaining and is haggling over service/promptness levelsand lookin
for an easy scapegoat
