Default Weetbix needed?

I think I should really have some Weetbix for breakfast instead of only
my mandatory two cups of coffee.

I was riding to the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney along this flat bit of
road - approx 2.5kms of it. Yes, I was on the road shoulder this time as
it was a lovely bit of shoulder - wide as a lane and in tip top
condition, so I availed myself. It was a great run and I entertained
thoughts of being Thor Hushovd powering along in a stage in the Tour de
France.

The shoulder eventually runs out and about 50metres before it merged
into the main road (2 lanes either direction) I stuck my hand out to
indicate I was moving to join into the main flow of traffic. As normal,
I glanced over my right shouldder to check on traffic and I saw another
cyclist following me about 20metres behind.

Still playing the mighty Thor, I thought I'd show this cyclist a thing
or two about cycling and merged quickly into the flow of traffic and
immediately assumed the dominant middle of the lane. Yes, that is now
BIG Thor would have done it.

I also picked up the pace from my leisurely 27kph to an unbelievable
34.8kph. I was moving, man!

About 200metres down the road, whilst still keeping up the punishing
speed, I noticed a movement out of the corner of my eye to my left. It
was the cyclist who was following me. He went past me like I was
standing still

I tried to give chase but he just kept pulling away. I gave up after
about 150m - I was buggered and he was still pulling away. It was
even more galling in that I noticed he didn't seem to be trying
particularly hard either - he was on his small chainring and probably
his 3rd or 4th smallest rear gear. To add insult to injury, he was in
lycra together with the mandatory sunglasses (why one would wear sunnies
at 1700 in winter, I don't know).

After consoling myself with lots of excuses, like my bike is 40 y.o. and
his bike looked really expensive and new, my tyres need more air, my
backpack weighs 8kgs, etc etc, I think the real reason is that I need to
get some Weetbix for breakfast. Might get some for tomorrow and try my
luck again.

How old are you and how old was he? That's one of *my* best excuses. :-)

OK, I admit it. It was me.

But I'donly done 65K that morning.

Bedding an a new campag chain, so I couldn't really push it - just needed to spin.

Speaking of excuses, you GOTS to watch this:

"...on the other hand, I haven't had any water in 4 days, and ate only 3
grains of rice!"

I tried that once. I was cruising at 35 or so, and catching up to the
guy in front who was sitting on around 30.

So I gave it some herb, and overtook approaching 40.

As I passed him, I heard him mumble "what the?"

Still sitting on 40 at that point, he overtook me.

I quickly found out 30 for him was a casual stroll in the park. I
tried to keep up, but while I could horse it along at 40 for a short
time, he just kept going on and on.

Any rider is a good rider. Any bike is a good bike so long as it isn't
gathering rust and cobwebs.
