Recommend a Floor Pump
I know this is more or less a FAQ, but I'd like a definitive
recommendation for a floor pump that will handle Presta valves without an adaptor. For example will a Topeak Joe Blow Max II fit the bill --- without accessories to be bought separately? I have a YPK brand name floor pump, no model and in spite of suggestions in the n.g. that all floor/track pumps should be able to do Presta without an adaptor, there seems to be no way with this model and that makes it a right royal PITA to use. But if anyone has one and knows otherwise, or can make suggestions as to proper use, then I'd be glad to hear. TIA, Jon C. -- Jonathan Campbell www.jgcampbell.com BT48, UK. |

My experience is that pumps with a 'one end fits all' wear out sooner that double sided pump ends such as the Joe Blow. My sample size is small so my data is unreliable. What is the experience of others? Double sided or one size fits both? |

Silca: http://www.pearsoncycles.co.uk/produ...UMP_WITH_GUAGE Sturdy, reliable and serviceable. No levers or toggles, just push the chuck onto a Presta valve and get pumping. The best pump I've had. One of these? http://www.ypkinnovations.com/rectec_1.htm Looks sort of like it; and the animation seems to suggest that, yes, Presta and Dunlop valves need the brass adaptor. I have it maybe four years, so too late to return it. Many thanks, Jon C. -- Jonathan Campbell www.jgcampbell.com BT48, UK. |

For example will a Topeak Joe Blow Max II fit the bill --- without accessories to be bought separately? The Joe Blow Max II has a double sided head, one side for Presta and the other for Schrader. Can't comment directly on the Joe Blow Max II, but I've had a pair of Joe Blow Sports without any problems at all. (And before someone asks, the reason I bought a 2nd one was that I moved house but failed to ensure that the pumped moved too!) -- These opinions might not even be mine ... Let alone connected with my employer ... |

As others have said - any Topeak Joe Blow with teh double-sided head (not teh 'smarthead' or other that does all valves with the same connection). The especially good thing about these are that they are mostly serviceable, with spare parts available (the innards are very standard acros teh range and history of teh range - so a new spare spring now likely fits a five year old pump). regards, Ian SMith -- |\ /| no .sig |o o| |/ \| |

Another data point of a happy Joe Blow user: don't know what particular model but it's yellow and has "Joe Blow" on the side, and has a two-sided head. If it was stolen or lost I'd buy another.
