The car did not collide with the cyclist, the cyclist bashed the

There's no way an overtaking car should have been close enough that the
cyclist could reach the mirror.

There's no way there's any justification for causing criminal damage to
the property of a fellow citizen.

According to the article linked to this thread, the driver involved in the
incident faces a possible jail sentence after being convicted of dangerous
driving and assault by beating a cyclist.

There is no mention of the cyclist doing anything against the law whatsoever,
however much you 'know' differently.

I read that article (unlike some of the other posters in this thread, including the first)...

The car driver (Watkins) came up on the cyclist from behind - there was no "previous".

Witness statements say he then began revving his engine, following which he overtook so closely that
there was a collision hetween the cyclist and his car. The cyclist was knocked off the bike. The
driver stopped and got out and demanded money from the fallen cyclist, and then punched him.

The conviction for dangerous driving clearly relates to Watkins' deliberately causing the collision,
as does the conviction for assault which describes what he did following the collision. I am
disappointed that he was not charged with attempted murder.

Watkins denies striking the cyclist (which reminds me of Tom Jelly's claim, up in front of the beak
for stiking a woman, that "...a fit siezed him in the arm.").

In sum, you are correct. The thread title is a complete distortion of the actual incident.
