Shimano 10s and 9s compatible with alternate cable routing?
From http://www.sheldonbrown.com/dura-ace.html :
|Any 10 speed Shifter w/ 9 speed cassette using Standard derailer with |alternate cable routing (B) Is this something that has been determined experimentally, or is it a Shimano supported option? (and presumably, a pre-'94 DA derailer would work as well as a standard derailer with cable routing B?) Jasper |

They won't even admit that another brand of cable or tool will work with their stuff. I'd be leery of using a pre '94 DA der with a 10 speed cassette, but if you have one, it wouldn't hurt to try.
