Default True bent disc rotors?

Has anyone had success straightening a bent rotor? I saw this tool on
pricepoint.com:

??

When the disc is seriously bent the succes rate is very low. When it is
slightly bent it requires some skills.

Yeah, I figured.

Has anyone that reads this had experience straightening a rotor of any
"bent"?

A 6" crescent wrench is nearly as good for the home mechanic

It seems the manufacturer assumes most disks have the same thickness
and being as paper-light and thin, as most are, are easily bent. This
seems to have no parallel in motor vehicles, two wheeled or otherwise.

All very interesting.

But has anyone reading this had *experience* straightening bent discs? Either
success or failure...

I routinely (once a month or so) have to tweak my rotors a bit to
alleviate pad rub. I assume this stems from heating & cooling cycles
warping the rotors. I simply use my hand to do this pressing the
offending part of the rotor one way or the other until the rub is
gone. It works ok.

I did just recently tweak a rotor (a nice little kink about 5mm in
length) when the hitch on my trailer snapped and something in the
trailer hit the rotor. I haven't attempted to fix the rotor yet, will
probably require use of a very flat anvil and a nice hammer. I imagine
that tool is mostly for working with warped rotors, and not severely
bent rotors. The clearance on my setup between rotor & pad is probably
less than 1mm so any slight deviation will cause rub.

I have a spare wheelset so I pulled the rotor off that wheelset. I've
got a few bids on used rotors on ebay to replace the one on the spare
wheelset.

I reckon many if not most of us with disc brake experience have tried
to correct warped rotors that rubbed. The problem with that is once
the corrected brake goes through more of the same heating and cooling
cycles that caused it to warp to begin with, some of the internal
stresses introduced by bending the rotor flat will relax and cause the
rotor to warp again.

Based on this sort of experience, I can guess that a truly bent
(rather than merely warped) rotor could be improved to the point of
being basically functional, but probably could not be returned to a
stable and flat enough condition to prevent rubbing or rotor drag.

Most of us use brake rotors that are equipped with adjustable spokes
for stiffness and accurate periodic truing, along with thermally
efficient aluminum braking surfaces and diameters as large as our
bikes can accommodate. They're pretty cool; you should give them a
try.

Yes but it can be tedious work. New rotors are not at all
pricey so we can't reasonably bill a half an hour's time to
fix a bent rotor.

Bicycle specific rotors are under 2mm stainless and slotted.
Doesn't take much of a bash to ding one.
