This sort of actions have always been SOP so I wonder why the big deal is being made out of it.
This isn't SOP. It's a major rule violation and extremely bad for the sport.
Remember that even in Breaking Away they had to have a scene in which the Italians knocked the American off the road.
Um...yeah. That was a movie - It wasn't real life. That said, the Italian rider didn't knock the american off the road, the italian shoved a pump into the front wheel. Are we to assume that, because you saw it in a movie, it's acceptable in real life?
The peloton normally keeps these things inside the peloton and isn't squeaking complains the the press.
I don't have a problem with Kittle making noise about this. I wish more prfessional cyclists would make more noise about other rules violations (and outright crimes) committed by the peloton. Cleaning up cycling has to start with the riders.
This is the real world. The top pro stars of the peloton do not do this because of the chance of getting disqualified. But that is what the team members do ALL the time.
Initially Americans were shocked and dismayed and stopped riding in the pro peloton. But very soon they were trading push for shove.
