Repair stand recommendations
So I was researching a Blackburn workstand for sale on Craigslist and came across this thread. Answers my questions as to why there isn't much info out there on them. They're ancient apparently 😀 ---- This is called a emoticon

I assume it's well priced nowadays, right? I've had mine for - wow, 20 years or so? Not a bad product. But about a year ago, the plastic friction disc (that prevents rotation or tilting of the clamped bike) disintegrated. I don't see that Blackburn sells replacements, and the two homemade solutions I tried haven't worked particularly well. One was a thick sheet of some plastic, probably polyethylene. Too slippery. The other is a thick sheet of rubber from a motorcycle inner tube. Too floppy, and contact cement didn't keep it glued in place. But the stand still works OK, with just a little more fussing. -- - Frank Krygowski |

A thought. I see flat clutch plate, or maybe brake, lining for sale here - about 3/16", maybe 1/4: thick. A friction disk cut out of that material might work. See http://www.industrialclutch.com/384-...ial-flat-sheet for example. It looks sort of pricey and what I've seen here was certainly cheaper. -- Cheers, John B. |

I don't know but I would try a disc of phenloic resin sheet or masonite, something like that. -- Andrew Muzi www.yellowjersey.org/ Open every day since 1 April, 1971 |
